A wreck who eats well

Thanks for all the kind words yesterday! I have learned so much recently and had to face up the fact that eating paleo isn't going to erase staying up until 4 AM. So far my plan to get better includes:

1. Blackout curtains

2. Going to bed at a normal time and working normal hours

3. Morning sunlight

4. Not pressuring myself to do something all the time (easier said than done)

5. Meditation

6. Quitting the coffee treadmill

7. One alcoholic drink a week. This is a tough one, but I come from a family of people who had to quit drinking for very good reasons. Maybe in the future I can resume drinking again, but for now it seems like a bad idea.

8. Figure out what I want to do with my life. Right now I'm not exactly living my dreams. I have a love-hate relationship with my city and a mostly hate relationship with work. Honestly, there has to be something out there for me right? I'm not that happy sitting in front of the computer, even if I make more money and have more flexibility. I thought that was freedom— I was wrong.

Feel better! I admire the

Feel better! I admire the resolve and like your to-do list.

Meditation: I have read zillions of books on meditation and the only one worth reading is The Wooden Bowl by Clark Strand. Also, does this mean that you no longer think zen is agriculturalist?

New York City: I left recently and it was a very good move in so many ways. It just was not that fun being that far from trees and open spaces, and being not-rich in a city built for and ruled by the rich. DC has lots of non-profits and a wonderful quality of life and we would love to have you. Just sayin'.

I know it's easy for others

I know it's easy for others to say it will get better, but it will. Hang in there. Good food, good sleep, de-stress, all can work wonders.

Just eating, sleeping, and

Just eating, sleeping, and relaxing doesn't help when you found out you really are on the wrong track in your career. You can cope with it, but is that a good choice for the coming 30+ years? You probably shouldn't just muddle through, it has an impact on too many hours of your day.

Same with your diet. You can continue your SAD diet, and cope with the negatives for an extended period, the after lunch/dinner-dips, bloating, problems with intestines, painfull joints, whatever. But in the end, it's going to get you, diabetes, heartproblems, ...

I'm equally as well versed in

I'm equally as well versed in 4 I've gotta say - when ever there's nothing really to do I always find myself wondering what I 'should' be doing.

Oh, and in regards to 9 - not all guys dislike some hair on woman... yep, I'll just leave that hanging there lol.

Good luck!

8: Is an important one. I

8: Is an important one. I love the city I live in, but I'm not really happy with my software engineering job anymore it seems. Thinking what is important in my life I find that a lot of 'stuff' is not that important really. Electronic gadgets, new car, big appartement. Stuff like that. Stuff I can quit fairly easily, except for my appartement, because it's bought, and tied to a mortgage. But basically that is the main, or single, reason that I work nowadays: just for the (good) money to pay my mortage and stuff.

Most people grow up and have the idea that you should follow the following path to get happy: get a good education, good diploma, nice job, permanent contract, buy a house/car, etc, etc. But that's probably not really what you should do. The house and car should not be your ultimate goal.

When I started in software 10 years ago I really liked it. Now I have changed, but my job hasn't, and I'm trying to find out what to do, but it's not sitting hours-and-hours a day at a desk, staring at a monitor, doing software puzzles.

I had a chat with a coach recently, and now I'm trying to work out "what's next". Making a huge switch when you are 34 of kind of difficult and scary, so I'm trying to find out if I can make a switch using my experience without the need for getting a new diploma.

9: Romantic relationships can be a very relaxing and healthy thing. But when it fails, it can seriously f^ck you up for some time... Not giving up though.

Darth Vader wifebeaters are

Darth Vader wifebeaters are way hot :)

When my last relationship ended, it gave me 'time' to revamp my lifestyle and got my adrenal fatigue under control.
Sleep hygiene, natural sunlight, time for self, coffee cleanup...the works. Best thing to happen perhaps?

Great plan! Bat For Lashes

Great plan! Bat For Lashes sounds like a cross between Bjork & Kate Bush. Very nice.

Good plans, all! Hope you

Good plans, all! Hope you can find a line of work in the future which is more enjoyable for you, less stressful...
Getting a good night's sleep will help you a lot, too.....

Sorry that things aren't

Sorry that things aren't going so well for you right now, but I'm just soooooooo happy to see a blog by a low-carber in NYC. It's so hard living here in the land of tiny grocery stores, tinier kitchens, and mom and pop restaurants and reading about other low-carbers who have no idea what it's like. I'm looking forward to reading you.
