This blog is about the intersection between evolutionary biology and food. But also about practical applications, sustainable agriculture, and general tasty things. I originally started eating this way to heal from chronic health problems and...it worked!
pain
Learn how to sit, stand, walk, and lie down like indigenous cultures free from back problems.
Taddio (a pain specialist) concluded that a single painful event could produce effects lasting for months, and perhaps much longer. "When we do something to a baby that is not an expected part of its normal development, especially at a very early stage, we may actually change the way the nervous system is wired," she says. Early encounters with pain may alter the threshold at which pain is felt later on, making a child hypersensitive to pain--or alternatively, dangerously indifferent to it. Lasting effects might also include problems like anxiety and depression, even learning disabilities.
From an essay on fetal pain by Anne Murphy Paul, The First Ache, in The Best American Science Writing 2009.
I think what is natural for childen should be an important topic in the paleo community even for those of us not having children at the moment. The Continuum Concept is a great starting point. I was just watching this video and I thought about how thinking about circumcision is another. Yes, I am talking about penises. I think that this subject is so taboo is what allows this barbaric practice to exist. If young men and women who might become parents start thinking about it early, they will be prepared when the doctor asks or even pressures them about circumcision. The truth is that its a painful event that robs a human being of part of their body for their entire life.
If you think about it, it is about as natural and healthy for babies as soy formula. If you are thinking about how returning the human body to its original diet (the paleo diet) and way of locamotion (Vibrams or barefoot running)....maybe we should be thinking about other parts of the body too.
